During the landing phase, the elastic bands ensure the slowdown necessary for good control of plantar flexion. During the support phase, the ankle is free to perform flexion and extension movements, while during the rolling of the forefoot, the (residual) function of the soleus muscle is called upon. This results in a natural and efficient gait. Usually, the shoe ensures that the orthosis is held securely around the foot, but the Push AFO has a system of fastening straps.
